The Dowel is the door. The Job is the memory.

- The physical product a person sees, scans, taps, installs, and replaces.
- Anchor
- The technical role it plays: locating a Subject or a scoped path into Dowelify.
- Knowledge Dowel
- The durable Job reference itself. A physical Dowel points to it; it is never the record.
The planned pilot flow
One physical address. A different door for each role.
The carrier contains an opaque Dowelify address. Identity, participation, disclosure, and entitlement are resolved by the service—not printed into the tag.

Use the best working layer: NFC, printed QR, or the human-readable serial.
- 02Resolve the Dowel
Locate its registered subject or one deliberately scoped Job path.
- 03Authorize the person
Determine what a reporter, technician, manager, owner, or invited participant may see.

Report, investigate, measure, review, or begin a new bounded episode without fracturing the record.

Dowel
Dowels stay.
A Dowel remains attached to a thing, place, or instrument and can reach its continuity across Jobs.
Pass / Not a Dowel
Passes expire.
A Pass opens exactly one scoped report, invitation, approval, or Job view, then ends.
Carrier honesty
Stronger entry never becomes false proof.
Every proposed Dowel degrades gracefully: tap when available, scan the printed code when it is not, and enter the serial when the electronics or print fail.
Printed QR
Universal camera entry. A presented address—not proof that the phone or person is beside the original Dowel.
Tap
Plain NFC makes entry faster. It is clonable and is not sold as a trust upgrade.
Signed
A secure chip can attest that a genuine chip answered that tap. It still cannot prove the person, work, or record.
Tamper-evident
A destructible or witnessed carrier can reveal disturbance. It detects; it does not prevent or prove work.
The Address Covenant
The plate may fail. The address should not rot.
- Replace without rewriting.A damaged Dowel can be retired and replaced while every Job remains intact.
- Fail safely.Unbound, retired, compromised, or copied carriers reveal no private record by default.
- Keep the destination portable.The resolver is intended to remain re-pointable, exportable, and independent of any disposable QR vendor.
